Student Athletes - Plan to market yourself to college coaches.

If you’re interested in playing a sport in college and trying to earn athletic scholarships, plan on marketing yourself extensively to the coaches at the colleges and universities of your choice.

One of the biggest mistakes high school athletes make is waiting for college coaches to notice them.  If you’re serious about playing college sports, there are steps you can take to get college coaches to notice you.  Take the recommended steps to maximize your chances of becoming a player on a college team.

Plan on making a 10-to-15 minute video highlighting your athletic performances and send the video to college coaches with a letter of introduction and your student résumé.  This video should not be a game film; rather, it should be an edited version featuring your best performances in a number of games or practices.  Also, talk with your high school coach and ask him/her to assess your athletic ability so you can get a true understanding of your potential for playing college sports.
