Complete all documents
and forms requested by your college.
Work with your college to complete and submit all necessary
forms on time. To keep track of the documents and tasks
that need to be completed before entering college, refer to
MyCollegeCalendar Post-High School/Pre-College Checklist.
Expect to receive information from your college on the following
items:
- Pre-registration
for classes. Select
your class schedule and return pre-registration materials to
the college as soon as possible. Make sure you complete
all required placement tests for math and foreign languages. If
possible, order textbooks online as soon as you can after your
pre-registration is approved.
- Housing. Complete the housing
form for the dorm and room style you want. Depending
on the college, you may have a choice of a single, double (with
or without a private shower), a quad, an apartment or even
a duplex on campus.
- Roommate questionnaire. Answer
all questions honestly so you can be assigned a roommate with
whom you are compatible.
- Health Insurance. Complete
the health insurance form. You can use your existing
insurance, however, most colleges offer health insurance through
a campus provider.
WARNING! If you plan to use your parents’ health
insurance coverage while in college, check to see if their
insurance company requires you to be a full-time student. If
their insurance company requires this, and you get injured
or sick and are unable to carry the minimum 12 units of classes,
you may no longer be considered a “full-time” student
and you may not be covered by your parents’ health insurance. Ask
your parents’ to call their insurance provider for details.
- Dining Meal
Plan. Select the
best cafeteria meal plan based on the number of meals per week.
- College orientation
days. Plan
on attending college orientation days this summer.
- Transportation
while at school. Are
you taking a car or will you be using public transportation? Get
a parking permit if you will have a car on campus or a bus
routing pass if using public transportation.
- On-campus
job. Do you need
an on-campus job or have you been offered a Federal Work Study
job? Ask about the on-campus job fair that will be held
in the first week of school. Go early to the job fair
so you can choose the best job available.
- Due dates
for payments. Find out when the tuition and room and board
payments are due. Mark the dates on your calendar and submit
payments on time.
